By: Page Morgan Genre: Romance, Historical Fiction Characters: Luc, Ingrid, Gabby, Vander, Nolan Pages: 352 Goodreads rating: 3.8/5 The Beautiful and the cursed is set in beautiful Paris 1899. This book is unique, violent and extremely romantic. This YA gothic involves gargoyles, hellhounds, angels and more In the first 70 pages of this book I read about two dead bodies, that meant I was in for a treat. This book did get a little gory, besides from the two dead bodies, we read about beastly attacks by hellhounds - which were really cool. To be protected from these creatures some houses had gargoyles- amazingly described by Page Morgan. These guys protect their residents from evil and danger by turning from a gargoyle to humans. I believe this was based on gargoyle lore, something I knew very little about left me in total, complete awe. Page somehow made them dark and beautiful. Their human form gives us century old characters, some who revel power, some who soak in despair, some who are angry and lonely, but all of them carried an air of despair. I believe that Page really helped you understand a gargoyle and connect to them. This book starts out in 2 sisters point of view. Ingrid and Gabby Waverly, when they find out that their brother, Grayson is missing. At first Page leaves her writing vague, making the reader yearn for more, but step by step she reveals more information on the girls' pasts, including past loves and mistakes. Then Ingrid starts getting powers, leaving everyone perplexed, even her gargoyle, Luc, who must protect the Waverly sisters. He can choose to turn in her and her demon powers to Lennier, the head gargoyle or keep it a secret. But Gabby won't sit around and wait for her brother to come back on his own, so she tries to find him by starting to seduce a boy who might know where her brother is, till she comes to his room and finds him dead, then meets the ever so elusive Nolan Quinn, head of the alliance, a group trying to get rid of demons in Paris, including Vander, one of Grayson's old friends. One day Ingrid stumbles around and finds him and it turns out they know much more about Grayson's disappearance then they seem to know, then later Vander and Luc fall in love with Ingrid, and this book suddenly adds a huge love triangle between her and the two boys, so it's either a forbidden romance with a gargoyle or a forbidden romance with a man who's below her. But of course it gets juicier when Page makes Nolan fall in love with Gabby and then she include Chelle, a past girlfriend who is jealous and willing to do anything to ruin the blossoming romance between the two. This juicy, amazing, intense book leaves a reader speechless and engrossed the whole time with swoon worthy scenes along with massive plot twists and huge mysteries all throughout this amazing book. It is a must read and I plead you to read it now!!
